Sadhana 2011

PACTO, the Private Ayurveda College Teacher’s Association, recently organized a 3 day workshop on Clinical Aspects in Ayurveda, held at the Nangelil Ayurveda College in Kothamangalam, Ernakulam.  It was a very good effort, and all the presentations had good content with good intent. The classes by Dr. L. Mahadevan, Dr. K.S. Dinesh, Dr. Prakash Mangalassery, Dr. S. Gopakumar, and Dr. Rammohan were all attender-friendly, and informative in the right dosage.  That Syam and I could interact with some of them made it all the more special.

It felt good going back to college after a long time. Even if it not my own, the guys at Nangelil made it almost feel like it. Arun, Hari, Tony, Krishnapriya, and many more… Nice experience. The forest trip on the third day, where we went into the Thattekadu Bird Sanctuary and the Bhootatankettu dam inside the forest, to identify herbs and all, was fun… Kerala has got so much natural abundance, if She was a woman, she’d be one of whom you’d never tire…

Fishing for the sun On the edge of clouds

We had went there the previous day, but the trip was called off because of the rains. In the morning, it was all the more beautiful… The modern dam now is a successor to a mythological one, said to be built by the Asuras – demons – to gain power, hence the name; from ‘kettu’ - build/dam, and ‘bhootam’ - demon. They had to do this in a night, before the cock crowed, and it meant invincibility if they completed the task. They also couldn’t be disturbed while they were working. (This is how the legend was told to me. I think the latter part was added on to avoid questions like “Why didn’t the gods just nuke them as they were piling on the rocks?”) But they hadn’t factored in the party-popping killjoy Shri. Vishnu, Lord of pulling-the-rug-from-under-the-feet-of-Asuras, who assumed the form of a rooster (his not too publicized ‘Kukkutaavatara’), and crowed before the sun rose. The Asuras rested prematurely, and were taken by surprise by the Gods.

A closer look at turbulence

I like it frothy...

After the dam, we went inside the forest…

The way to heaven!

The wilderness and the animals

Light, here I come...

Nature seduces Syam, Syam shoots Nature

Syam and Lidia chechi posing :P

And after a refreshing walk through the forest, during which we encountered many fascinating plants, and the odd fascinating volunteer who told us what we were seeing, we reached the original Bhootatankettu.

Bhootatankettu

Dammed by the demons

Having toured the natural dam, we backtracked our trail and got out, next stop, The Bird Sanctuary…

Yes, we had fun...the woods can be hilarious. The leeches, especially...

It was a bit of a dampener there, caused due to a power outage, which meant we couldn’t see the stuffed exhibits well in their lighted displays. We didn’t have time to spot many of the ones that were still stuffed with their own insides and flying around, so we didn’t get to watch that many birds in the sanctuary… But there were other things to be watched, so…

Watching birds... Yeah, really...What? You don't think there are birds at eye level? On the road?

…And then, it was back to the seminar hall… So did another event come to pass. Good papers, entertainment (sang a no-rehearsal, poorly planned song with Tony to wrap up the cultural events that got out of cue on karaoke, but brought the house down anyway), good food, and of course, the bird-watching.

The question is, does the memory recollection  and some pics on a low-res mobile camera make anything flow in a stagnating blog?

Bloody True...

In times of darkness, You and your Existence are two vampires bound together by circumstances. When things get down and dirty, you either suck LIFE out of Existence, or Existence will drain LIFE out from you. You can't let your guard down fully at these times, Existence never does... It is looking for sneaking in that one bite, for one more drop of your energy. Be wary.

But you can strike up a friendship based on respect too, if you are patient and brave enough. It sometimes happens that your present Existence will stake itself to give you a chance, at a better one...

Re: Union

9:49pm
Anyway bro, it was great seeing you after such a long time... Everyone, matter of fact... We all evolve, yet some part of us stays the same... Never spoiling...Deep-frozen in time... Easily thawed by the presence of friends and memories and ready to serve again...
waaah waaah

(He's in Lucknow, Hashim. 'Waah' equal appreciation, not wailing... Just FYI) :)

It's just right...

Some cups can never stay emptied...
Cups of lust, envy, anger and greed...
Are cups from which we all may feed...
Just keep pouring in love, and take heed...
To never really stop watering the seed...
...of hope, that all hate may end...
...and we'd have a cuppa love's blend...

Koan ho?

Sari asked G:

so whats happening at ur side

G said:

At one side, there is darkness, at the other there is light... the cause - one lit CFL at left, and a fused one at right...

And Sari was enlightened.

Angst–the sequel

My friend Rajit posted a poem in his blog the seeker's thoughts, with the title ‘you get to name it’. It was a dull afternoon, and I thought I’d write a comment for him, because feedback always has livened me up, whether I give it, or receive it.
But what started out innocuously went on to occupy more space than his poem…
This was his post…
you get to name it.
When I fall my final fall
and get my trial before the divine,
What I did before the final call
insignificant though, with this life of mine.
Can I be proud? Can I stand tall?
Or did I just indulge in food and wine?
Will He smile, or frown at my life so small
And tell to try again and fall back in line?
Is this it or is this all?
Give me direction. Give me a sign...

This is the result of a lonely day and me lost in thought. more to follow soon and you my dear reader, I reserve you the right to name it. Until I find my writing self again, bye for now.

{The following is the comment that appears by me...}

Hey there... good exercise in rhyming, and good poem... I'll call it 'Angst'... Was reading it again, and it was a lonely day here too... so I tried to get into the skin of a guy who could write something like this... and then imagine what more he'd write, if HE were feeling bored, had just listened to a dozen rap songs, and wanted to amuse himself by sticking with the first rhyme that came up...
And this turned out...
... Thought I'd give it here, right along with the inspiration...

'Angst', Part II

{This is a bit longer than what appears on the blog...}

I sit back and let the unrest unfold,
hear it tell me what I've myself told...

For sprouting this angst, which seeds did I sow?
Bruised by blows from fixtures that break the flow
of the path that I had chose to fol-low
Is this the way to light, or is that glow
from a will-o'-the-wisp that marks woe?
Or sparks from the chair at the end of a Death Row?
No hope springs from my hearts' fields fal-low
when I go there, and into them I throw
what others say is the intelligence that I show,
that makes me differ from your average Joe.
I feel locked in, how the hell can I grow?
I'm boxed in, by lines that they say I must toe.
They give you blinders, you run when they say 'go'
They tell you - "there is gold at the end of the rain-bow"
(that they've drawn from the blood of an imaginary foe)
"This is 'competition', as you bloody well ought to know"
(Just like 'constipation'), "it gets uncomfortably tight, so tally-ho!"
You get your a$$ whipped if you're too slow
They scare you so much you laugh at E.A. Poe.
You run till your spine feels like it’s made of jell-o
and your face is an unhealthy shade of yel-low
with green and red mixed in for effects very mel-low
You want some air, but you hear your voice bel-low
"Can't stop, don't stop, see that other fel-low
He's catching up, and not just to say 'Hel-lo'
He's gonna be on top, and you'll be be-low
(That's being Desdemona, at least be Othel-lo)"
Just a while ago, this guy was your bro
But this is a rat-race, you gotta be a pro
Push and shove some, to others kow-tow
When madness reigns, be an outright psy-cho
You don't wanna be outta a job, a ho-bo
Cutting up grass in some farm with your hoe
Idealism was just for when you were cal-low
You gotta get the dough,
for the banks that you now owe
Holdin' up a crummy life over thoughts shal-low
Life's music becomes a monotonous tremo-lo
played to the ears of a insensitive buffa-lo
Hiding horns in the glare of a self-made ha-lo
However you F$#* up, its just a peccadil-lo
Life's rich, and it's a bitch, just be its gigo-lo...
And all these truths are too hard to swal-low.
After realizing them, I can't spit 'em away so...
Feel like a 'yo-yo' stuck halfway up at 'yo'..
No drink's deep enough to drown my sor-row
And my discomfiture is tho-rough

o, o o, o o.....
[{... and just so that this senseless rhyming may now cease
(before it goes into decline and disease
already the crowd is going ' Stop, Please'...)
I'll tell you.. the sound of 'o' is the reprise...}

...I'll stop, I see your lips yawn, form an 'o'
I still could go on, I tell all of yo
I still had Violoncello, Apollo
 Osho, Oslo,and Abbott and Costello… ]                         ”

:P

P.S.: I had to wrap it up when I did... there were too many rhymes coming up...
So long, January 2011…
